2019 Track and Field Information
Coaches: Mr. Koshel, Mr. Watson, and Ms. Sims
Practices – will be on Monday and Wednesday for the month of March, April and May. High jump practices will be during lunch hour and have to when there is no Junior High Badminton practices or Intramurals. There will be throwing practice for Shot put, Discus and Javelin as well during the lunch hour when the time is available. This may seem like many practices but you are only expected to attend one practice per week as many are involved in work or baseball/fastball/badminton. If you would like to attend all practices, you are strongly encouraged to do this and you will benefit from it and help you get to Provincials. If you cannot attend practices at these regular times, you must talk to a coach about when you can practice. If possible, Mr. Koshel can make workouts for you that you could do either in Phys Ed class, at lunch hour or during spare. If you fail to practice at least once a week, we will not be allowing you to compete at some or all of the competitions later in the season. This is to protect you, the athlete, from injuring yourself at a practice or competition, which can easily happen without the proper preparation.
Personal Goals – We would like to speak with everyone about the upcoming season and determine, based on their choice of events, how well they would like to do for the upcoming season, whether it would be a specific time or distance or a placing in Zones or Provincials. We will meet a number of times as needed, to discuss any changes throughout the season, as well as when the training phases change in the season.
Attitude- We would hope that everyone who comes to join this team will have a positive attitude toward track and field. We expect a little bit of complaining the odd time, but not constant whining about the workouts or practices. If you cannot say anything positive, please keep your comments to yourself. The coaches are here to help you both mentally and physically prepare to compete in the sport of track and field, thus, we will explain the warm up, how to train within practice plans and preparation for how to compete at competitions.
Competitions- We, the coaches, will prepare you prior to the competitions on the rest, foods and physical/mental training required. This will be done throughout the season, but emphasized as you get closer to the competition.

Thus, a signed postdated cheque must be sent in to cover such a situation and handed in with the $55 track fee. If the athlete qualifies and competes at Provincials, the cheque will be returned to the parent. If you would like to discuss the fee and postdated cheque, please speak to a coach about this.
